Bible Christian Methodists in SA
Sunday 11th October, 3.00pm
As part of the growth of Methodism, the Bible Christian movement was formed in England in October 1815, 200 years ago this month. Retired UC Minister, Rev Ted Curnow, has completed a detailed study of this branch of Methodism in this State.
His 650-plus page book, Bible Christian Methodists in South Australia, 1850-1900: A Biography of Chapels and their People, will be launched on Sunday 11th October at Church of the Trinity, 318Goodwood Road Clarence Park at 3.00pm.
Walk and Talk
A Uniting Church Historical Society event at the Port Adelaide Uniting Church

You are invited to come to this heritage listed church at 167 Commercial Road Port Adelaide. At 2.30pm there will be an introductory session at which Port Adelaide historian Brian Samuels will give an overview of the unique Port community and the Congregational Church which formed in 1849. Then, following afternoon tea, at 3.15pm there will be a number of electives to choose from.
John Watt, minister at Port Adelaide from 1970 and West Lakes from 1975 will speak about the development of his innovative ministry including the experimental "Switched On" worship in the gallery.
Dean Eland, minister from 1984 to 1991 will present "If these walls could talk!”, an exploration of the artefacts of the 1868 building, embodying the story of faith and the imaginative response by the congregation to changes over the years.
Peter Lambert, local lay historian will tell the story of the empire evangelist Rev Lionel Fletcher at Port Adelaide 1908 to 1915.
Peter Muller and others who were involved in the Christian community movement of the 1970s will lead a reflective session.
Peter Bicknell, former CEO of UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide, will offer an elective about the Port Mission Sunday Club program involving the local Aboriginal community in the 1970s.
